Tips for Learning at Home

This parent information is to highlight the many learning opportunities that parents can provide at home, and the best part is they are very easy to implement!

Schedule Screen time.  It is a good idea to schedule when screen time will happen for students. Having some structure about when you will use  ‘technology’ will help students with expectations and managing the day.

Timetable Learning. Students respond well to timetables and routines. Having a visible timetable helps them to engage in learning tasks and children can then ‘tick off’ when they have finished their activity.  Use a whiteboard or jot down on a piece of paper.   Children will feel a sense of achievement when they have completed their learning tasks. This includes break times. Having a scheduled recess and lunchtime is also really important.

Organise a Learning Space  A dedicated space helps students to focus on tasks. Reducing distractions like the television and other stimulus can also help students maintain focus and get the most out of tasks. So, turn of the TV and loud music before they settle down to work.
