Samson's Blue Tree

In 2021 the students at Samson Primary School participated in the Wellbeing 4 Kids Unstoppable Me program.

The program was run over 9 weeks with a 40-minute session each week for each year group.  The students learnt about Mindful Breathing, movement and relaxation.

The students’ participation in the program promoted discussion amongst the Year 6 students, around Mental Health, during their weekly class meetings.  These meetings are held to give the senior students the opportunity to discuss various issues around the school which they feel should be addressed and/or promoted in their school community.  The leavers group discussed how they could further enhance the message of taking care of themselves and their peers’ mental health.

A group of these students took it upon themselves to research the origin and message of the Blue Tree Project.  (https://www.bluetreeproject.com.au/) How the students could integrate these messages into our school community became a class meeting focus each week.

The creative minds of our students were unleashed.  With the assistance of our school gardener, Chris Dwyer, and reminders of our school virtues, they brainstormed what good mental health looks like for our school and how it could be promoted in the environment for our students.

The students worked collaboratively with Mrs Dwyer to paint and build our version of the Blue Tree.  The tree was presented to the school at the Year 6 assembly, on 3 November 2021, where they introduced the importance of mental health and well-being to the younger students.

The Blue Tree is a symbol that reminds us all to:

STAND STRONG LIKE A TREE WHEN FACED WITH ADVERSITY AND BRANCH OUT TO SOMEONE YOU TRUST FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT.
