On Tuesday, 17 May the students in Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 participated in a tree planting activity in Samson Park supported by Perth NRM, Friends of Samson Park and the City of Fremantle.

Overall there were more than 600 native seedlings planted in areas needing some re vegetation. All the volunteers were greatly impressed with the behaviour, cooperation and attentiveness shown by all the children.

The process was to locate the seedlings that already had holes dug for them, place a fertiliser tablet into the hole, loosen the seedling and soil from the pot, place the seedling in the hole, fill around the seedling with soil and compact it down, water it thoroughly, place a stake next to the plant and put the empty pot on top of the stake to show that it was completed. Finally, they were able to tie a name tag to the stake of a seedling they planted so they can keep a track of its growth over the next few years. Please take the opportunity to visit the park with your children and view what they achieved.
