Welcome Back to Term 4.
It promises to be very busy as we close out 2020 over the next few months. I hope that everyone has had a relaxing term break and are ready to get straight back into work. The students have returned to school very well and settled back into their classes very quickly.
TERM PLANNER
A revised Term 4 planner is now available on our website and on Schoolzine. As we are a Waste Wise school hard copies will only be made available from the front office on request.
MAGPIES SWOOPING
Magpies are starting to nest and there have been televised incidents of swooping where children have received eye injuries.
When nesting, Magpies are very protective of their young. Please ask your children to wear their hats to and from school, keep their eyes down or wear sunglasses etc to protect their eyes and move out of their way quickly if magpies are around.
Particular places to take care are around the large tree at the front of the school and if you walk along Anglesey Drive near the Winterfold Road end. Around Samson Park is also a place where magpies nest. Starting early with reminders will make your children aware of what to do when magpies are around them. Please remind them not to chase the birds.
SMS – ABSENCE MESSAGES
For the parents who would like to send an SMS in the morning for your child’s absence, the phone number is 0418 948 875.

PEAC is a program which provides specialised learning extension for gifted and talented students in Years 5 and 6. The program offers a range of courses that provide the most able students with opportunities for extension and enrichment work that is intellectually challenging. These special courses are run off site during regular school hours.
The PEAC courses are for exceptionally able students who are identified in the testing process that takes place in Year 4. Two tests are administered. The first measures broad language and reasoning abilities and is made up of the following components: verbal comprehension, mathematical problem solving and verbal analysis and reasoning. The second test measures students’ ability to see relationships and solve problems. The scores from the test will be used in the selection of students for the PEAC courses and other extension programs. Students who are new to Western Australia, or who miss the original testing date, will be provided with a catch-up test date.
Testing at Samson Primary will take place on Tuesday, 27th October at 9am. Parents who do not wish for their child to be tested are able to opt out by contacting the school in writing.
LIBRARY NEWS
Book Fair will open Wednesday, 21st and close Monday, 26th October. The students will view the Fair with their class and make a wish list of itemsthey have seen that they would like to buy.
To purchase from the Book Fair, you can go online choose BOOK FAIR PAYMENTS and use your credit card to make the payment, then return the wish list your child has bought home with the payment receipt number on it to the Library and I will supply the book/s required. Alternatively enclose the cash or credit card details along with the wish list in an envelope to the Library and I will receipt it and supply the book/s selected.
