Computer Shutdown
From Wednesday 11th November to Friday 13th November a new server is being installed throughout the school. We will have no computers in use throughout the school. It will be a return to the olden days before computers, back to pen and paper.
This will also mean that we may not have phones operating also. An alternative mobile number will be in use during this time. Parents will be informed via classdojo next week the phone number to use in case of an emergency.
COLOUR FUN RUN
Friday, 13th November
The format of the Colour Run will be like that of the lapathon. Students from Pre Primary to Year 3 will run the inside circle of the cones on the oval. The students from years 4 to 6 will run the outside circle of cones. Parents are welcome to join in and participate. There will be some obstacles around the oval for students to go through, over and around.
The Safety data materials were sent out to parents on classdojo. It will be a fun afternoon. Students will start running at approximately 1.50pm.
REMEMBRANCE DAY
On the 11th November each year, Australians observe one minute’s silence at 11 am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. We will go out to recess 5 minutes early so that the whole school can observe this silence immediately after recess in their classrooms with their teacher.
Armistice Day or Remembrance Day
At 11 am on 11th November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the German force back, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months. In November the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement.
They accepted allied terms that amounted to unconditional surrender.
The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years. The moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front became universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war.
This first modern world conflict had brought about the mobilisation of over 70 million people and left between 9 and 13 million dead, perhaps as many as one-third of them with no known grave. The allied nations chose this day and time for the commemoration of their war dead.
The red poppy is the symbol of Remembrance Day.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT 2020
We are not having an audience for the Christmas Concert for 2020, rather Mr Marshall will video the concert and put the utube link out on class dojo for parents to see at home. Due to the large number of parents who come to the Christmas Concert and the need for everyone to have a great view of the students, we have decided to conduct our concert with the students and video the event. This means that parents can sit with their child at home and watch the concert via our utube link in leisure with the whole family as many times as you like. All family members including grandparents etc can watch many times over. Classes from Pre Primary to Year 6 sing a Christmas song, our instrumental students also play Christmas songs. You may see a song from the staff at the end.
INTERSCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
A BIG ‘CONGRATULATIONS’ to all our athletes and Mrs Burt for their fantastic win at the Interschool Athletics Carnival last week. The students can be who gave proud of their efforts and sportsmanship throughout the day. Well done everyone.
STUDENTS NOT RETURNING TO SAMSON FOR 2021
If your child/children will not be returning to Samson P.S. next year, can you please advise the school office staff. This will help us with our planning and organisation for the 2021 school year. Thank you.
Our year 6 students are moving onto high school and we ask that parents complete the enrolment for the high school as early as possible. This assists the high school with planning for their new students.
Class Requests
Where parents have an educational request for a class placement for 2021, please write a note and drop it off in the office. The reason must be educational. Describe your child’s need and this will be taken into consideration. We do not take requests naming a teacher or a list of student names you wish to be in the class. If your child has been in a split class in 2020, we try to ensure that they are in a straight class where possible the following year.
Booklists 2021
We have a new supplier for our Booklists. They have been placed on the Samson Primary School website for parents to print. It is optional for parents to use Ziggy’s to provide the stationery for your child. Any supplier will be able to provide the stationery. The book Levy, P & C and School Contributions can be paid through the booklist or via the school via eftpos in 2021.
