Start of term 3
Welcome back to term 3. It’s a very busy term. A crisp and cool start, but hopefully the days will progressively get warmer and drier throughout the term.
All staff and students have returned to school and we have had a very smooth start to the school term. This is a very busy term as we will be able to run our usual school events. At this stage that means assembly.
School Assemblies
Parents will have received the term 3 planner on class dojo at the end of term 2. Next Wednesday, 29th July we start our school assemblies. During term 1 we had only two assemblies. This assembly is being led by our year 6 student councillors. They will put on a short skit related to our school virtue of Cooperation. Parents of students receiving an honour certificate will receive an invitation from the class teacher so they have the opportunity to come along and watch them receive the certificate and take a photo or two. Also the parents of our year 6 councillors are invited to attend to watch their skit. The following assembly our room 6 students will be presenting the assembly, so parents of the class will be invited to attend and so on.
We are required to social distance at any school event, so chairs will be set out with spaces for the audience. It is only when the Health Department recommends that we step into Phase 5 that social distancing will be relaxed. As we are currently in Phase 4 we will be slowly opening up these events to parents.
Student Drop Off and Pick Up
Staff have been really impressed with the way children are independently walking into the school grounds, especially young students. Everyone is entering their classroom and unpacking their own bag. I understand how much parents like bringing their children into the school however some adult behaviour prevents our students from fully developing their independence. Students are more focused and ready to start in the morning. We have less students arriving late. Learning begins quickly in the morning. Students are ready to begin work and class routines are completed before the bell rings. Our students are working better and are more calm and ready to start straight after the bell rings in the morning. Students are organising their own possessions. This has been a surprise to staff and has been an unexpected, positive outcome from the Covid 19 pandemic.
Staff and parents have noticed these changes. To seek feedback from parents regarding student pick up and drop off arrangements going forward, a survey is being sent out today to parents for ideas on Class Dojo. The survey will be open for 10 days to get ideas. Please respond in an email or fill out the form and drop off to the class teacher in your child’s school bag.
In anticipation, I thank everyone for your responses.
